This journey is specially designed for culture lovers! Discover Oman’s rich history, cultural highlights, and trading heritage.
The trip combines Northern and Southern Oman: after 8 days, you fly to Salalah in the south, where you can explore the heritage of the frankincense trade.
This is a self-drive tour. Upon arrival in both Muscat and Salalah, a rental car will be ready, allowing you to travel at your own pace.

This tour is suitable for travellers who enjoy culture, history, and heritage, prefer exploring independently by rental car, and want to combine Northern and Southern Oman in a single journey.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Thursday: Amsterdam › Muscat
Depart in the evening on a direct flight from Amsterdam to Muscat. After approximately 7 hours of flying, you’ll arrive early in the morning.
Day 2 – Friday: Arrival Muscat
Pick up your rental car upon arrival and drive to the hotel. Your room will be available immediately. Take the morning to rest and explore the surroundings of Muscat’s old town: souq, harbor, and winding streets.

Day 3 – Saturday: Citytour Muscat

Tip: buy a picnic lunch today for tomorrow’s walk in Wadi Shab.

Day 4 – Sunday: Muscat › Wadi Shabb › Tiwi
Walk through Wadi Shab: winding gorges, palm oases, turquoise pools, and waterfalls. Bring sturdy shoes, plenty of water, and a hat. Swimwear is allowed; shorts are acceptable.
Overnight: Tiwi Sunrise Hotel
Day 5 – Monday: Tiwi › Ibra › Nizwa
Depart early to Ibra, a historic town along the old caravan route. Visit the Women’s Market and stroll through the old town. After lunch, drive on to Nizwa, famous for its silverwork and fort. Travel time: approx. 4 hours
Overnight: Antique Inn, Nizwa
Day 6 – Tuesday: Nizwa and surroundings
Visit Jabrin Castle, one of the most beautiful 17th-century forts, with authentic architecture and beautifully painted ceilings. Then visit the Beehive Tombs of Al Ayn and make a photo stop at Bahla Fort.
Overnight: Antique Inn, Nizwa
Day 7 – Wednesday: Nizwa
Visit the Across Ages Museum, an interactive museum about geography, history, Islam, and the Sultan. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to wander through Nizwa or buy souvenirs.

Day 8 – Thursday: Nizwa › Salalah (flight)
Return your rental car at Muscat airport and fly to Salalah. Pick up your rental car at arrival and drive to your seaside resort, Souly Lodge.

Day 9 – Friday: Salalah
Drive along banana and date plantations to Mughsail Beach. Admire the high cliffs, white beaches, and lagoons with grazing camels. On the way back, visit the mausoleum of the prophet Ayoub (Job). Optionally, stop at a fruit stand for fresh coconut water.
Overnight: Souly Lodge, Salalah
Day 10 – Saturday: Salalah
Visit Khor Rohri, the ruins of the port city Samharam, and Wadi Hinni for a short walk among Baobab trees. Stop at the Point of Gravity and the mausoleum of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Ali al Alawi. End the day with a visit to Taqah Castle.
Overnight: Souly Lodge, Salalah
Day 11 – Sunday: Salalah › Muscat › Amsterdam
Return your rental car and head to the airport. Fly via Muscat back to Amsterdam, arriving around 6:30 PM.
