Safety in Oman

On 28 February 2026, Israel and the United States (US) carried out strikes on targets in Iran. As a result, in March the travel advisory colour code for several areas in Oman was changed from yellow to orange. Below, you can read what these colour codes mean and what this implies for travel to Oman.

Meaning of Travel Advisories and Colour Codes
On the website www.Nederlandwereldwijd.nl you can find travel advisories for 226 countries. These advisories indicate the colour code and outline any safety risks in a country or region.
The colour codes provide guidance: safe to travel (green/yellow), essential travel only (orange), and do not travel (red). By following the travel advisory, you reduce the risk of encountering problems during your trip.
A travel advisory is not legally binding. It is a preventive recommendation issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is your own responsibility whether or not to follow this advice. You decide whether to proceed with your travel plans and remain responsible for your own safety.
Orange Travel Advisory in Oman:
An orange advisory currently applies to the following areas in Oman:
The Dhofar Governorate, particularly the area around Thumrait and the port of Salalah
The Al Wusta Governorate, particularly the area around the port of Duqm
The Ash Sharqiyah Governorate, particularly Masirah Island
The port of Sohar and the area within a 15 km radius of the port
In these areas, US military targets are present. Missile and/or drone attacks have occurred, and there remains a possibility of further attacks.
An orange advisory also applies to the border region between Oman and Yemen, where security risks exist due to the ongoing civil war in Yemen.
Yellow and Orange Areas in Oman
Most round trips to Oman take place in yellow-coded areas in the north of the country. The desert region (Ash Sharqiyah) has an orange advisory. Sur and the desert region continue to be considered safe travel destinations.
To date, all trips have been able to proceed as planned, and all scheduled flights have operated normally.
